What to Pack for an English Summer School

Every school has its own kit list, always follow that one first, but these are the items families forget most often, across every UK location we work with.

Documents (keep these with the student, not in checked luggage)

• Passport, valid for the full length of the stay.
• A printed copy of the visa or entry clearance, if one applies, see our visa guide.
• The school's emergency contact details and your own contact details, written down, not just saved on a phone that could run out of battery.
• Any medical information the school needs, allergies, regular medication, and a UK-compatible supply of that medication if applicable.
• Printed flight and transfer details.

Clothing

• A raincoat or waterproof jacket, whatever the season, UK weather changes quickly.
• Layers rather than one heavy coat, mornings and evenings are cooler than the afternoon even in summer.
• Comfortable, already-worn-in walking shoes for excursion days.
• Swimwear, several of our schools include an indoor pool or a beach excursion.
• One smart outfit, for any formal dinner or presentation evening.
• Sports kit if the school offers football, tennis or similar activities, check whether boots are provided or need to be brought.

Money

A pre-loaded travel card or a small amount of cash (GBP) for personal spending is usually more practical than a full bank card for younger students. Ask us or the school what a typical week's spending money looks like for their excursion programme.

Small items people forget

• A UK plug adaptor (Type G).
• A reusable water bottle, useful on excursion days.
• A padlock, for a shared wardrobe or trunk in residential accommodation.
• Spare glasses or contact lenses, if worn.
• A few photos or a small item from home, homesickness is normal in the first two or three days and usually passes quickly.
